Cloning - When the original is not enough to get the job done  

When an individual animal has been genetically preserved, genetic twins of that animal can be created using the stored DNA. Once these cloned embryos are successfully produced in-vitro, they are placed in health-certified recipients to be gestated and calved in for their owners – creating genetic duplicates of the original animal.

Even if the original animal is healthy, it may be in the prime of its hauling and exhibiting career.  A clone can be kept back home for the purpose of breeding and semen production.

Breeders most often look at cloning as a technology to:
  • Produce a genetic copy of an elite animal no longer capable of producing embryos or semen.
  • Reproduce a genetic copy of an elite animal that has died.
  • Produce quantities of elite individuals for the purpose of large-scale, consistent genetic influence within a herd building program.
