Preg Rate + increases pregnancy rates and adds more heifers
Preg Rate + is a program developed and offered exclusively by Trans Ova Genetics in select areas. Combining the use of sexed semen and IVF technology to create large quantities of dairy embryos, Trans Ova Genetics can help producers overcome pregnancy rate challenges by circumventing the fertilization process within the cow during stressed times.

Applying advanced reproductive technologies can help to improve pregnancy rates in larger dairy herds.

Preg Rate + combines embryo transfer with semen sexing technology to help:
  • Improve 21-day pregnancy rates - up to 38 percent
  • Achieve an 90 percent heifer calf ratio
  • Advance genetics by transferring elite-sired embryos into lower genetic merit cows
  • Have a more consistent supply of fresh cows

With the use of Preg Rate +, producers can get 89 percent heifer calves and choose which sires to use in making those heifers. Trans Ova Genetics sorts semen for sperm carrying the X (female producing) chromosome. Then, the sexed semen is used to fertilize oocytes harvested from dairy female ovaries creating the embryos that will be transferred into a producer’s estrus-synchronized, lactating cows.

These options are available with Preg Rate +

  • Use embryos that Trans Ova Genetics has created from top sires of the producer’s choice and breed-average Holstein females.
  • Bring a top-performing cow from the producer’s own herd to Trans Ova Genetics for IVF treatments. Use top sires of the producer’s choice to create female embryos from this cow. Her embryos will be implanted into the producer’s herd, allowing for rapid growth from within.
  • Use Jersey, Montbeliarde, Swedish-Red or Brown Swiss sires on Trans Ova Genetics’ supply of Holstein female genetics - or the producer’s own female from the herd - to create crossbred embryos, ensuring a consistent herd make-up and maximum heterosis benefits.

*Note: Preg Rate + is available to herds with 500 or more milking cows.
